Amtrak plans to build its new Midwest Maintenance Facility at the Canal Street Yard in Bridgeport, with maintenance operations running 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The proposed facility would be located alongside a residential neighborhood and next to Armour Square Park. Residents have raised serious concerns about potential air pollution, noise and vibration, nighttime operations, traffic, lighting, spills and emergency risks. We also continue to have questions about the environmental review, how this site was selected, what alternatives were considered, and why residents were brought into the process so late.
We support investment in passenger rail. We support modernizing Amtrak’s facilities and bringing federal investment and jobs to Chicago. We do not support putting this facility next to our homes and park.
Sign the petition calling on Amtrak and the Federal Railroad Administration to stop plans for the Midwest Maintenance Facility at the Canal Street Yard and pursue an appropriate alternative location.
Keep the investment. Keep the jobs. Modernize Amtrak. Just don’t put this facility in Bridgeport.
